Mainstream Energy Corporation was founded in 2005 by managing partners Timothy Ball, Christine Holz and Angiolo Laviziano, all veterans of the renewable energy industry. Several additional partners have subsequently been added to the founding team, each bringing individual strengths and deep experience in the solar industry to the Mainstream Energy management team. In early 2010, Kam Mofid joined the senior leadership team as President of Mainstream Energy. In this position, Mofid is responsible for the overall management of the company’s two business units, REC Solar and AEE Solar. His mandate also includes charting and implementing the company’s strategic growth initiatives.
Ball and Holz co-founded Applied Power Corporation (APC) . Under their direction, APC became one of the largest providers of solar electric systems in the United States. Ball served as CEO and Holz as CFO until 2000 when APC was acquired by Schott Solar. Additionally, Ball served as an expert consultant to the World Bank on the use of solar systems for electrification in developing countries, and has assisted other solar businesses as a consultant and board member with business development and mergers & acquisitions. Ball and Holz have been involved in the solar industry for more than 25 years.
Before teaming up to form Mainstream Energy, Angiolo Laviziano was the managing director of Conergy AG, Europe's largest solar energy company. He was directly responsible for Conergy's sales, procurement and global expansion. Laviziano was also involved in the company's prolific acquisition activity and in Conergy's European IPO in 2005.
Prior to joining Mainstream Energy, Kam Mofid served with distinction in key leadership positions in major global automotive, aerospace and industrial firms. He led the green technology arm of Teleflex Incorporated, as Group President where he dramatically grew the company’s capabilities and market position in alternative fuels, emissions reduction, power management, and climate control products and technologies. Prior to Teleflex, Mofid was Director of Global Materials and Logistics at Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies company, and a world leader in design and manufacturing of commercial and military jet engines.
Mofid holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, a M.Sc. degree in Manufacturing Management from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, and a M.Sc. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Industrial & Systems Engineering in Atlanta, Georgia.
